Brazilian and Bikini Wax Facts

1. How long should my hair be before a Brazilian wax?

For the best results, hair should be approximately 1/4 inch long, or about the length of a grain of rice. This allows the wax to grip the hair properly and remove it cleanly from the root.

2. Should I moisturize before my waxing appointment?

Yes. Begin moisturizing the area daily at least 3 days before your appointment. Well-hydrated skin is more supple and allows the hair to release more easily during waxing.

Proper hydration can help:

• Reduce skin irritation

• Lower the likelihood of skin lifting

• Minimize hair breakage

• Improve overall waxing results

Please avoid applying lotions, oils, or creams immediately before your appointment. The skin should be clean and product-free on the day of your service.

3. Should I eat before my waxing appointment?

Yes. We recommend eating a meal or snack within 3 hours of your appointment. Low blood sugar can make you feel more sensitive to discomfort and may increase feelings of anxiety or lightheadedness during your wax.

As we like to say, "Pain starts in the gut!"

Arriving well-fed and hydrated can help make your waxing experience more comfortable.

4. Can I drink coffee before my waxing appointment?

It's best to limit caffeine before your appointment whenever possible. Coffee and other caffeinated beverages can increase sensitivity, making waxing feel more uncomfortable for some clients.

5. How painful is a Brazilian wax?

Everyone's pain tolerance is different, but most clients describe waxing as a brief moment of discomfort that lasts only a few seconds at a time. The good news is that regular waxing often becomes much more comfortable as the hair grows back finer and softer.

6. Can I shave between waxing appointments?

No. Shaving between appointments disrupts the hair growth cycle and can make future waxing less effective. Staying on a regular waxing schedule helps create more consistent results and softer regrowth over time.

7. How often should I get a Brazilian wax?

Most clients schedule their Brazilian wax every 4 to 6 weeks. Consistent appointments provide the best long-term results and help keep hair growth cycles synchronized.

8. Should I exfoliate before my Brazilian wax?

Yes. Gentle exfoliation 2 to 3 times per week before your appointment helps remove dead skin buildup, allows hair to grow freely through the skin, and reduces the likelihood of ingrown hairs.

9. Should I touch the area after my wax?

Try to avoid touching the freshly waxed area for the first 24 hours. Your hands can transfer bacteria to freshly opened follicles, increasing the risk of irritation, bumps, or breakouts.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you DO NOT engage in ANY intimacy for 24 to 48 hours after a wax!!

10. Can I work out after a Brazilian wax?

We recommend avoiding exercise, excessive sweating, and friction for at least 24 hours after your appointment.

Freshly waxed skin is more sensitive, and sweat combined with tight workout clothing can lead to irritation and discomfort.

11. Can I swim, visit the beach, or use a hot tub after waxing?

Please avoid pools, hot tubs, saunas, the beach, and prolonged sun exposure for 24 to 48 hours after your wax.

Freshly waxed skin is more vulnerable to irritation from:

• Chlorine

• Saltwater

• Heat

• Sand

• UV exposure

Giving your skin time to recover helps ensure the best results.

12. Can I get a spray tan after a Brazilian wax?

Yes, but we recommend waiting at least 24 to 48 hours after your waxing appointment before receiving a spray tan.

This allows your skin time to calm down and helps prevent uneven color development.

13. How can I prevent ingrown hairs?

The best way to prevent ingrown hairs is to maintain a consistent home care routine.

We recommend:

• Exfoliating regularly

• Moisturizing daily

• Avoiding tight clothing immediately after waxing

• Staying on a regular waxing schedule

• Avoiding shaving between appointments

If you're prone to ingrown hairs, ask your esthetician about professional home care products that may help. Your esthetician will be able to give you the best advice at your appointment.

Facial FAQs

1. How often should I get a facial?
Ideally, every 4–6 weeks, as this aligns with the skin's natural regeneration cycle. However, it depends on your skin type and concerns.

2. What is the best type of facial for my skin type? Which facial should I choose?
At Lucky You Beauty Bar, we've simplified the process so you don't have to guess which facial is right for you.
Simply choose the amount of time you'd like to spend with your esthetician, and we'll take care of the rest.
Every facial begins with a skin analysis and consultation, allowing your esthetician to evaluate your skin's current condition, discuss your concerns and goals, and customize the treatment accordingly. Your skin is constantly changing due to factors such as stress, hormones, lifestyle, climate, and home care, so what your skin needs today may be different from what it needed a month ago.
By focusing on treatment time rather than selecting a specific facial from a long menu, we can ensure you're receiving the most appropriate products, techniques, and modalities for your skin at every visit. No facial is ever the same at Lucky You Beauty Bar.
Whether you're concerned about acne, aging, dehydration, sensitivity, pigmentation, or simply maintaining healthy skin, your esthetician will create a treatment plan designed specifically for you.

3. Can I wear makeup after a facial?
It’s best to wait at least 24 hours to allow your skin to absorb the benefits of the treatment and avoid clogging pores.

4. What’s the difference between a chemical peel and a traditional facial?
Chemical peels use acids to exfoliate deeper layers of skin, while traditional facials focus on cleansing, hydration, and relaxation. Your esthetician may choose to use an enzyme peel on you, which gently dissolves the intra- cellular matrix ( the glue, so to speak) that holds dead skin on. Enzymes typically dont affect the living tissue but are a safe and effective way to remove dead skin during your customized treatment.

5. Are facials safe for sensitive or acne-prone skin?
Yes, but your esthetician will choose facials tailored to your condition and will avoid aggressive treatments like harsh exfoliation or extractions.
Dermaplaning

6. Is dermaplaning safe for all skin types?
Generally, yes. However, people with active acne or skin conditions like eczema should avoid it.

7. Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker or darker?
No, it’s a myth. The hair grows back at the same rate and texture as before.

8. How often should I get dermaplaning done?
Every 3–4 weeks, sometimes longer or as part of your skincare routine / before special occasions. Your skin is actually primed for makeup application following your professional dermaplaning service.

9. Can I combine dermaplaning with other treatments like facials or peels?
Yes, it’s often combined with facials to enhance absorption of products or prepped before light chemical peels.

10. What are the side effects of dermaplaning?
Temporary redness and sensitivity are common. Sun protection is crucial after the treatment. People with metal allergies or histamine sensitivity may want to avoid this treatment, but your esthetician will ensure a safe judgment.

Safety Info

Are there any skincare products or medications I should stop using before my facial or waxing session ?

Yes. Certain skincare products and medications can increase skin sensitivity and may affect which treatments can be safely performed.

We recommend discontinuing active exfoliating products approximately 5–7 days before your appointment unless otherwise directed by your esthetician. This may include:

• Retinol products

• Retinoids

• Glycolic acid

• Salicylic acid

• Lactic acid

• Benzoyl peroxide

• Strong exfoliating scrubs

• At-home chemical peels

If you are currently using prescription-strength retinoids such as:

• Tretinoin

• Retin-A

• Tazarotene

• Adapalene (prescription strength)

• Other prescription vitamin A derivatives

please inform your esthetician before your appointment. Depending on your skin condition and treatment goals, you may be advised to discontinue use for an extended period before certain facial treatments.

Can I receive a facial if I use Accutane or Isotretinoin?

Accutane (Isotretinoin) significantly affects the skin and requires special precautions.

Most exfoliating facial treatments, chemical peels, dermaplaning, waxing services, and aggressive resurfacing treatments are not recommended while taking Accutane and for a period following completion of treatment.

Clients currently taking Accutane, or who have recently completed an Accutane regimen, should disclose this information during their consultation.

In many cases, gentle supportive treatments may still be appropriate, including:

• Hydrating facials

• Barrier repair treatments

• Calming facials

• Soothing facial massage

These treatments are typically performed without exfoliation, steam, extractions, dermaplaning, chemical peels, or other potentially irritating procedures.

Your esthetician will determine which treatments can be performed safely based on your health history, medications, skin condition, and physician recommendations.

Why do I need to disclose medications before my facial?

Many prescription medications and skincare products can affect skin sensitivity, healing, and treatment outcomes.

Providing a complete list of medications and active skincare products allows your esthetician to customize your treatment safely and avoid unnecessary irritation, skin lifting, over-exfoliation, or adverse reactions.
